Shannon Estabrooks, PT, is the Director and founder of ActiveLife. She graduated from Dalhousie University's Physiotherapy program and is one of only a small number of PTs in Atlantic Canada with a Diploma in Sport Physiotherapy. She has served on Sport Physiotherapy Canada’s national executive board, and has taught the Sport Physiotherapy module at Dalhousie University. She has provided sports injury care to elite athletes at national & international events, is a physio provider for the Canadian Sport Centre-Atlantic, and is a Registered International Sport Physical Therapist. She has a special interest and education in running and rugby injuries, vestibular rehab, and concussion management.
J.R. Marshall, PT, graduated from Dalhousie University’s School of Physiotherapy in 2006 and completed a MSc in Sports Physiotherapy from the University of Bath (UK) in 2013. He has been active in the sports community in Pictou County, and beyond, as Team Therapist for the Pictou County Weeks Junior A Crushers, MacGregor Kinsmen AAA Midget Baseball Team, the Hockey Nova Scotia U16 High Performance Program and as the Clinical Director of FUNFitness for Special Olympics Nova Scotia, in which he has helped at three National Games to date. J.R. has completed post graduate courses in orthopedic manual therapy, acupuncture, functional dry needling, vertigo treatment and post-concussion rehabilitation.
Sophia Wornell, Kinesiologist-PT Aide, is a 2022 graduate of the BSc Human Kinetics program from St. Francis Xavier University. During her time at StFX she worked for 2 years as a student athletic therapist with the mens varsity football team. She gained hands on experience working with various players preventing and treating injuries. She grew up playing many competitive sports such as hockey, soccer, and softball. Sophia is looking forward to expanding her knowledge and practical skills assisting clients and helping them improve their overall quality of life.
Lina Skoke Woods, RMT, graduated from ICT Northumberland College in 2002 with her diploma as a Registered Massage Therapist. She has 18 years experience in therapeutic massage. She has specialized training in myofascial release, passive release, trigger point therapy, deep tissue massage, sports massage and pregnancy massage.
Carol Ann Sweeney, owner of Fit Right Orthotics, is a Certified Pedorthist and consultant to ActiveLife. She graduated from the University of Guelph with a BSc in Human Kinetics (1994). She received her certification as a Pedorthic Technician in 2002 and became a Canadian Certified Pedorthist in 2007. As a Pedorthist, Carol Ann is proficiently trained to perform thorough foot assessments, design the required orthotic for each individual and manufacture them in her own lab. She is confident she can tackle any foot, ankle or alignment concern. She has manufactured and fitted orthotics for not only most types of footwear but she has also fabricated them for skates, ski boots and athletic cleats.
Debbie has been an administrative lead with ActiveLife for nearly 20 years. With this experience and her education, she has a wealth of knowledge to assist ActiveLife's clients.
Marnie began working with ActiveLife in 2021 as a summer student. With her sunny personality and can-do attitude, following graduation from St. FX's Human Kinetics program, she was warmly welcomed back.
Sue has years of administrative experience in physiotherapy clinics. You will see Sue from time to time, working on a casual basis and supporting the full-time staff.
