Shannon Estabrooks, BScBio, BScPT, Dip Sport PT

Shannon, the Director and founder of ActiveLife, graduated from Dalhousie University's physiotherapy program in 1996. She is one of only a small number of PTs in Atlantic Canada with a Diploma in Sport Physiotherapy, has served on Sport Physiotherapy Canada’s national executive board and has taught the Sport Physiotherapy module at Dalhousie University. She has provided sports injury care to elite athletes at national & international events, is a physio provider for the Canadian Sport Centre-Atlantic and is a Registered International Sport Physical Therapist. She has a special interest and education in running injuries, vestibular rehab and concussion management.  She was selected the "2007 Physiotherapist of the Year" by the NS College of Physiotherapists.

John Robert (JR) Marshall, BScPT, MSPY

J.R. graduated from Dalhousie University’s School of Physiotherapy in 2006 and completed a MSc in Sports Physiotherapy from the University of Bath (UK) in 2013.  He has been active in the sports community in Pictou County, and beyond, as Team Therapist for the Pictou County Weeks Junior A Crushers, MacGregor Kinsmen AAA Midget Baseball Team, the Hockey Nova Scotia U16 High Performance Program and as the Clinical Director of FUNFitness for Special Olympics Nova Scotia, in which he has helped at three National Games to date.  J.R. has completed post graduate courses in orthopedic manual therapy, acupuncture, functional dry needling, vertigo treatment and post-concussion rehabilitation.

KINESIOLOGIST-PHYSIOTHERAPY AIDE

Brandon Sharpe, BScKin, Honours

Brandon is new to the ActiveLife team.  She is a recent graduate from UPEI, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science with Honours in Kinesiology.  During her time on the Island, she volunteered at a physiotherapy clinic and Big Brothers Big Sisters.  She spends her spare time playing basketball and softball.  She plans future education in physiotherapy.  In her role at ActiveLife, she enjoys working with patients to help them reach their goals through exercise.  

MASSAGE THERAPISTS

Lina Skoke Woods, RMT

Lina graduated from ICT Northumberland College in 2002 with her diploma as a Registered Massage Therapist. She has 18 years experience in therapeutic massage. She has specialized training in myofascial release, passive release, trigger point therapy, deep tissue massage, sports massage and pregnancy massage.

Rob Fraser, RMT

Rob is a 2011 graduate of ICT Northumberland College's Massage Therapy program.  While attending college, Rob specialized in sports massage, myofascial release and Suikodo.  Prior to joining ActiveLife's team, he worked in Halifax and Dartmouth.  He and his wife, both from Pictou County, were happy to move back "home".  He takes great pride in working with his clients to achieve their goals through a focused massage therapy treatment and educational home care.  Rob believes massage therapy can both maintain and improve quality of life. 

Nicole Flemming, RMT

Nicole graduated from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in 2015 after completing the 2200 hour massage therapy program. While attending college Nicole specialized in sports massage and has provided massage at many sporting and special events. Nicole's massage therapy style can be considered relaxing with a therapeutic approach. She provides myofascial and muscle tension release with a medium-deep pressure, depending on the client's needs and wants. In her spare time Nicole enjoys spending time with her family, getting outside and participating in local sports such as baseball and hockey.

PEDORTHIST

Carol Ann Sweeney, BScHK, C Ped

Carol Ann, owner of Fit Right Orthotics, is a Certified Pedorthist and consultant to ActiveLife. She graduated from The University of Guelph with a BSc in Human Kinetics (1994). She received her certification as a Pedorthic Technician in 2002 and became a Canadian Certified Pedorthist in 2007. As a Pedorthist, Carol Ann is proficiently trained to perform thorough foot assessments, design the required orthotic for each individual and manufacture them in her own lab. She is confident she can tackle any foot, ankle or alignment concern. She has manufactured and fitted orthotics for not only most types of footwear but she has also fabricated them for skates, ski boots and athletic cleats.
